Acne may have started in your teen years, that time when age and hormones meet to cause those awful breakouts. Or, you may have begun experiencing acne breakouts in your adult years.

Along with the acne treatment you practice it is really important that you follow the prevention tips to avoid acne breakouts. Read on to learn about the Dos and Don’ts for Acne Prone Skin. When it comes to acne treatment and prevention these are some rules to follow:

Do’s for Acne Prone Skin

  • Wash your face with a cleanser specially formulated for acne-prone skin and clean water twice every day. However, do not over-wash to the point of drying your skin.
  • Keep your hair off of your face to prevent oil, dust, and hair products from irritating your skin.
  • If you wear makeup, use an oil-free foundation. Heavy makeup or other cosmetic products that block pores may cause a flare-up of acne.
  • Wash your pillow case every two days to prevent dead skin and oils coming from hair and face to keep coming back to your skin.
  • Follow your dermatologist’s advice on medicinal and nutritional recommendations.  If you have any questions regarding acne, it is always best to consult your dermatologist first.
  • Eat lots of fruits and green vegetables daily and drink at least eight glasses of water in a day.
  • Clean your make-up brushes every two weeks because make-up tools harbor dirt and bacteria.

Don’ts for Acne Prone Skin

  • Don’t squeeze or prick pimples or blackheads even if it’s tempting to do so. This will just cause infection to spread on surrounding skin areas.
  • Don’t scrub your pimples. This will cause skin to open and makes the healing process longer.
  • Don’t eat lots of fried, oily and fatty foods. To learn more check what to eat to get rid of acne.
  • Don’t use skin products apart from those recommended by your dermatologist.
  • Don’t use oil base moisturizers or creams on your acne prone skin
  • Don’t wear loads of makeup.  If you must, then use only non-comedogenic products. And never go to bed without removing your makeup.
  • Don’t shave daily.  Frequent shaving can result in tiny cuts on the skin that can worsen acne. Shave only as needed.

Most of all you must not give up! There are no such thing as quick results when treating acne.  It is a regular and continuous process that you have to do day in and day out. Simply follow these dos and don’ts for acne prone skin and prevent acne breakouts.
